West Coast Swim Club "Stingrays" Disability Squad


Philosophy


To offer children and teenagers with special needs an avenue for participation in a supported swimming squad, offering competitive opportunities. We seek to promote improvement of technique, fitness, inclusion, sense of achievement, well being and fun.

The group meets once a week on Saturday morning from 9am-10am at Challenge Stadium under the direction of  West Coach Swimming Club coaches. Young volunteers from the West Coast Swimming Club also support the group with training. The children participate in a squad format, with some instruction on stroke and diving technique as necessary.

It is a unique sporting environment which West Coast Swimming Club offers, providing specialist supportive training tailored to the individual’s skill level. There is also the chance to compete once a month at club nights, where races are timed and there is the opportunity for participants to interact poolside with their mainstream swim peers.

To participate in the Stingray group, membership to West Coast Swimming Club is required. Stingray participants may take out:

Every Saturday morning (year-round) 9-10am and Thursday night (for independent squad level swimmers) 5-6pm
Challenge Stadium, Stephenson Avenue, Mt Claremont
Fully qualified and accredited coaches
All fitness levels, ages and abilities catered for
Pools are heated year-round

Free come-and-try session
Meet the coaches, get information on how to get involved, jump in the pool and try out
Minimum requirement: Must be able to swim 50m Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke
Bring: Swimsuit, cap and goggles. Pool entry is not covered (approx $3.00).

If you decide to join the program, we will offer you the following package for the first year:

Reduced entry to pool, through being a West Coast Club Member
Free use of all swim training equipment
Fully qualified and accredited swimming coaches
