West Coast Swim Club "Stingrays" Disability Squad
Philosophy
To offer children and teenagers with special needs an avenue for participation in a supported swimming squad, offering competitive opportunities. We seek to promote improvement of technique, fitness, inclusion, sense of achievement, well being and fun.
The group meets once a week on Saturday morning from 9am-10am at Challenge Stadium under the direction of West Coach Swimming Club coaches. Young volunteers from the West Coast Swimming Club also support the group with training. The children participate in a squad format, with some instruction on stroke and diving technique as necessary.
It is a unique sporting environment which West Coast Swimming Club offers, providing specialist supportive training tailored to the individual’s skill level. There is also the chance to compete once a month at club nights, where races are timed and there is the opportunity for participants to interact poolside with their mainstream swim peers.
To participate in the Stingray group, membership to West Coast Swimming Club is required. Stingray participants may take out:
- A Recreational Membership, which allows participation at club nights and club championships, or
- A Competitive Membership, which requires a classification of disability to enter multidisability events at Swimming WA meets.
